NORTH WILKESBORO, N.C. — A teenager with ties to Columbus Grove died in a traffic accident early Saturday in North Carolina.
Malik Maxwell Patterson, 16, of North Wilkesboro, N.C., formerly of the Columbus Grove area, died as a passenger in a single-car crash at 3:42 a.m. Saturday near North Wilkesboro, N.C.
Patterson was a passenger in a 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Damon Bradley “Brad” Anderson, of North Wilkesboro, N.C. Anderson was driving north into a curve at a high rate of speed when the car went off the right side of the road into four landscape timbers, a sign, posts and a tree before coming to rest on the side of the road, said Staton Fox with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
Both Patterson and Anderson were declared dead at the scene from severe head trauma.
Two other passengers in the vehicle, Evan Anderson, 15, a brother of the driver, same address, and Matthew Ellis, 15, of North Wilkesboro, N.C., were able to escape the vehicle from a broken window. Both were taken to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Services for Patterson are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Chiles-Laman Funeral & Cremation Services, Eastside Chapel. Burial will be at Truro Cemetery in Columbus Grove.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
