Working to lower Ohioans’ grocery bills

0

We know corporations are constantly finding new ways to charge customers more and boost their profits. Every time Ohioans check out at the store, they aren’t just paying for their groceries, they’re paying for corporate stock buybacks and executive bonuses.

Snow failed to put damper on maple syrup event

The weather was sunny and 50 degrees on the day before the annual Maple Sugar Celebration, scheduled for Feb. 24 at Stratford Ecological Center on Liberty Road. This was a plus as we prepared for over 300 visitors. However, early Saturday morning our resilience was tested as three inches of snow had fallen, more was coming down, heavy winds were creating blizzard-like conditions, and the snowplows had only made one pass on the highway.

Class to focus on reducing alcohol-related risks

In 2022, the Delaware Public Health District completed a Community Health Assessment. It highlighted many of the reasons why Delaware County continues to be one of the top places in Ohio to live, work and play. The survey asked adults to honestly share answers to questions regarding weight and physical activity, diet and nutrition, and health habits regarding tobacco use and alcohol consumption.

Letter: Thoughts on building craze, taxes

0

The building craze in Delaware County/city is insane. Something needs to be done. Our roads are overcrowded, the traffic is awful, and the powers that be don’t seem to take that into consideration until it’s too late. All they seem to think of is increased building, approving new developments at the drop of a hat.

Letter: Rankey ‘implemented sound investment strategy’

0

As a county treasurer in a neighboring county, I can confirm that Delaware County Treasurer Don Rankey has implemented a sound investment strategy for Delaware County. Delaware County’s investment strategy is similar to the approach Union County has taken, which actively diversifies the investment portfolio depending on the anticipated changing interest rate environment. That means that in a rising rate environment, higher liquidity and shorter duration will provide the best short-term returns and in a flat or declining rate environment, extending duration will provide the best returns. As of today, diversifying the investment portfolio and extending the duration will provide for sustained positive returns. The above are prudent measures to maximize returns while mitigating risk, especially in the face of potential interest rate declines.

Recalling dad’s battle with Alzheimer’s

0

I remember the day my dad asked me where all his little daughters were. It must have been in the late ’60s or so. It was strange because we were not little girls anymore, we were five grown women. And we were all standing around where he was. At that time, they called his illness “hardening of the arteries.” Now we call it Alzheimer’s.
