The Grand Champion Over-All during Saturday’s judging of Forman Realtor’s Sunbury Bicentennial Beard and Mustache Championship Contest was Sunbury Police Chief Pat Bennett. Bennett, like many of the other contest participants not accustomed to facial hair, said he planned to get up Sunday morning and shave his beard. “I have to be at work on Monday,” Bennett said. “This was fun, but it’s not really me.”

Judging for Forman Realtors Sunbury Bicentennial Beard and Mustache Championship was held during Christmas on the Square.

The contest’s Supreme Grand Champion Over All was Sunbury Police Chief Pat Bennett.

Bennett, like many of the other contest participants not accustomed to facial hair, said he planned to get up Sunday morning and shave his beard.

“I have to be at work on Monday,” Bennett said Saturday. “This was fun, but it’s not really me.”

Beard and Mustache category winners took home $50 for first place; Bennett won $250 for Supreme Champion Over All

Forman Realtors also hosted Saturday’s Bicentennial Christmas Cookie and Candy Contest.

In the Adult Division, the First Place Best Cookies were Grandma Cookie’s Christmas Snickerdoodles baked by Jessica McCreight; Second Place went to Amanda Lester’s Hazelnut M&M Cookies.

Best Candy First Place was Hatfield’s Peanut Butter Fudge by Jeanne Hatfield; Second Place was Barb Faber’s Gourmet Peanut Brittle.

The First Place Best Christmas Freestyle was Snowman Cupcakes baked by Sunbury Bicentennial Princess Brooke Setmire; Jackie Hatfield’s Cinnamon Rolls placed Second.

“Actually, Brooke is a youth contestant who won in this adult category because we accidentally didn’t place her with the juniors,” said Forman Realtors Director of Marketing Kelly Forman. “Her cupcakes were amazing.”

In the Junior Division the Best Cookies First Place prize went to Olivia Dawson for her Sprinkle Sugar Cookies; Josie Gochenour’s Festive Wookie Cookies earned Second Place.

The Best Candy was Quincey Dunlap’s Christmas Crunch.

The Best Christmas Freestyle Award went to Ellie Gochenour for her Christmas Chex; Ethan Albert’s Whoopie Pies placed Second.

Cookie and Candy first place winners took home $100; second place winners each earned $50.

“It was a wonderful night,” Forman said. “We were surprised to find ourselves standing shoulder to shoulder on the second floor of the Town Hall most of the evening. We’re super happy with the turn out and are grateful to be here in Sunbury, as always. What a night.”

Forman said all recipes and photos of both contests are being archived in a hardback book in the Big Walnut Area Historical Society and at Sunbury Community Library. Anyone interested in getting a copy should contact Forman Realtors.
