Olivia Messinger Carril, co-author of “The Bees in Your Backyard: A Guide to North America’s Bees,” will give two presentations in Delaware County in April.

Carril will discuss bees and the book during two presentations in Delaware on:

• April 13, 7 p.m., Stratford Ecological Center, 3083 Liberty Road.

• April 14, 7 p.m., Deer Haven Park, 4183 Liberty Road.

The Stratford event will be preceded at 2 p.m. by a guided walk through fields and forests, as Carril and Stratford’s Bob Harter identify various wildflowers and bees. All events are free to the public, and advance registration is not required. Books will be available for purchase after both presentations.

“The Bees in Your Backyard,” written by Carril and Joseph S. Wilson, features more than 900 color photographs of bees, with information on habitat, food gathering and their roles as pollinators. The book also includes a chapter on how to attract bees to backyard habitats.

Carril said she hopes it will help readers understand the importance of bees to the natural environment, and the harm being done “when we take perfectly good habitat and pave it over.”
