FFA ag sales team 3rd at state

On Saturday, March 5, members of the Big Walnut/DACC Agricultural Sales Career Development Event (CDE) team participated in the state finals at Marysville High School, placing third in the state.

Ag sales team members Gabby Adair, Alex Brown, Evan Thiergartner, Lex Marvin and team alternate Ben Kessler developed a project based on Christmas tree sales through a company they called the Big Walnut Tree Co.

Kessler explained that a company sales pitch featured four types of cut Christmas trees – Frazier fir, Norway spruce, blue spruce and white pine — with additional tree types planned for next year as the ag sales team develops its CDE plan.

The business concept included individual tree sales and wholesale bundles. Wholesale bundles included tree setup at local businesses, free advertising and a tree buy-back offer for unsold Christmas trees.

Individually during the state CDE, Alex Brown placed 12th, Gabby Adair was 13th, Evan Thiergartner was 25th and Lex Marvin placed 31st out of 80 individuals.

More than 70 teams and almost 500 individuals were in the competition at the lower levels.
