A Delaware County employee who died earlier this week was remembered at the Delaware County Commission meeting on Thursday.
Ernest Gene “Butch” Bogan died Monday at Riverside Methodist Hospital after fracturing his skull in a workplace accident on July 17. He was 63 years old.
“He’ll be truly missed,” said Jack Prim, maintenance manager. He called Bogan a custodian supervisor.
“He worked with the county for 17 years, supervised nine individuals, and was responsible for the courthouse, the law library, adult court services, adult parole, the Carnegie building, the Hayes building, the Willis building,” Prim said of Bogan.
“His family can certainly be very proud of his service,” said Commissioner Barb Lewis. “He had a lot of responsibility, and so often worked too when others weren’t around, but he was the one that kept the ship moving, and making sure that things were safe. My prayers and my heart go out to his family.”
“Butch was a supervisor, did an outstanding job and well-respected with all those he came in contact with,” said Commissioner Gary Merrell.
“Anytime we lose a member of our county employee family, it’s a tough day,” said county Administrator Tim Hansley. “It reminds us of how fragile life is, and we should treasure it each day.”
Bogan was born in Delaware and was a graduate of Hayes High School. Before working for the county, Bogan delivered ice and was a bartender. In addition, he spent the last 14 years as custodian at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, where he was a member.
Visitation will be held at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St., from 5 to 8 p.m. today. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center with the Rev. Jennell Rue officiating. Burial will follow at Berkshire Cemetery.
