A Delaware couple is dead after they were hit by a semi-truck Sunday on U.S. 36/State Route 37.

The deceased are Anthony M. Marsello, 82, and Nancy J. Marsello, 78, both of 22 Snowberry Drive, Delaware.

Mr. Marsello was driving his 2014 Honda CRV north on Mill Run Crossing and had the green light when he entered the intersection with Routes 36/37 at 11:39 a.m. Sunday, Delaware police say.

Police said they are uncertain if the CRV was going straight onto Ohio 521 or if Mr. Marsello was turning left onto Routes 36/37 to head toward Delaware, but said the CRV was struck by an eastbound 2014 Peterbilt semi-truck driven by Jeremy Sloan, 33, of Sugarcreek, Ohio.

Police say the truck’s driver ran the red light and hit the CRV’s side.

The CRV was propelled across the intersection, and went into a spin before it came to rest in a ditch in front of the Glenwood Commons shopping center.

Mr. Marsello was transported via helicopter to OSU Wexner Medical Center while Mrs. Marsello was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital by Delaware firefighters. She was pronounced dead on arrival at Grady.

Police say Mr. Marsello died due to his injuries late Sunday.

The crash report states that a criminal investigation was initiated and charges are pending.

Sloan has not been charged yet, according to police, but he could be charged when the investigation concludes. The crash report says Sloan sustained an injury to his knee but refused treatment.

Sloan told officers he had been traveling at 40 mph at the time of the crash, just over the posted speed limit of 35 mph.

Sloan is a driver for Gordon Milk Transport in Sugarcreek.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing but drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been factors in the crash. Police said all three parties were wearing seat belts.

Traffic on Routes 36/37 was reportedly backed up to Sandusky Street.

Police were reportedly rerouting eastbound drivers through the Glenwood Commons shopping center until the crash scene was cleared by tow trucks.

The scene was reportedly cleared by 5:30 p.m. Police report that both vehicles were disabled in the crash.
