The Delaware Area Safety Council will offer two $1,500 scholarships for two individuals.

Applications are due on Tuesday, April 26.

To be eligible, students:

• Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in a certificate- or degree-conferring institution for the 2015-16 academic year.

• Must be enrolled or plan to enroll in a health, safety or related field.

Preference will be given to those employed at a Safety Council-enrolled company in Delaware County, or a child of an employee, according to the council. Secondary preference will be given to a student or alumnus of the Delaware Area Career Center.

Applications must be completed and submitted to the Delaware Area Chamber of Commerce office no later than April 26, and must include a maximum 500-word essay on how an applicant plans to use his/her education for better health and safety practices.

Council officials said the scholarships are not based on need, and there is no age requirement.

Recipients will be notified via phone on May 3. Awards will be presented during the regular Safety Council meeting on May 10. A recipient must use the funds during the 2015-16 academic year or forfeit the funds, council officials say. Recipients must provide proof of registration and instructions on submitting the funds. The funds will be made payable to the institution and not to the recipient.

Contact Sara Vaught at the chamber (740-369-6221) for more information or to to submit an application.
