Delaware woman involved in fatal crash

A Delaware woman was involved in a fatal traffic crash in Marion County on Saturday.

Dead is Edward Reiter, 80, of Bucyrus, according to state troopers.

The crash involved a Mazda Tribute, driven by Helen Ritter, 46, of Delaware, and a Honda Accord, driven by Frances M. Reiter, 79, of Bucyrus, troopers said.

Edward Reiter was a passenger in the Honda Accord.

The accident occurred at 1:18 p.m. Saturday when the gray 2008 Mazda operated by Helen Ritter was traveling north on U.S. 23 at the intersection of County Road 195 (Linn Hipsher Road) in Marion County, troopers said.

That’s when the tan 2006 Honda operated by Frances Reiter pulled from the center median area to cross the northbound lanes. The Mazda struck the Honda directly in the passenger side of the vehicle, spinning the Mazda around and forcing the Honda off the northeast corner of the road into a ditch, troopers said.

The Mazda contained two passengers, Matt Ritter, 37, and Ellie Hall, 4, also of Delaware.

Edward Reiter was the only passenger in the Honda.

The occupants of the Mazda were transported Marion General Hospital by Marion Township Fire & EMS, troopers said.

Mrs. Reiter was transported to OSU Medical Center by medical helicopter, troopers said. Mr. Reiter was transported to Marion General Hospital by First Consolidated Fire & EMS and was Reiter was pronounced dead at Marion General.

No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation, troopers said.
