O’Brien to run for Olentangy board

Several incumbents have decided not to seek re-election in the fall, and one familiar face — after a brief hiatus from public office — will seek a different position.

Former Delaware County Commissioner Ken O’Brien, who resigned his seat in June due to changes to the public employee retirement system, will seek a seat on the Olentangy Local School District’s board of education.

In the race for three open seats, he will face six other candidates, including incumbents Kevin G. O’Brien and Roger M. Bartz. The other candidates are Andrew Forgrave, Martin W. Johnson, Yvette Lawal and Mindy Patrick.

Incumbents Adam White and Stacy Dunbar will not seek re-election.

The Buckeye Valley Board of Education will also have at least one new member next year after Tom Kaelber, who has led the board for the past two years, decided not to seek re-election. Incumbent Joe Roden will square off against Amy Dutt, Randy L. Turner and Jeff White for two open seats.

Two Powell City Council incumbents – Richard A. Cline and Mike Crites – will not seek re-election. Incumbent Jon C. Bennehoof will face Chad Beldon, Donald D. Emerick, Brendan Newcomb, Chris Shear and Daniel Swartwout for three open seats.

Delaware City Council will have one new member next year, as council member Andrew Brush opted not to seek re-election. Kyle Rohrer, Delaware County’s first assistant prosecuting attorney, and Rand Guebert will vie for the 4th Ward seat.

Five candidates plan to run for the one open seat on the Orange Township Board of Trustees, including incumbent Lisa Knapp. She will face Rick Beer, Todd Dovwe, Garrick Ducat and Genevieve Hoffman.

In the village of Galena, Village Council member Nancy Feole will not run for re-election. Incumbent Grace Piper, Michelle M. Parsons and Chris Underwood will compete for two open seats on council.

Three candidates plan to run for the two open seats on the village of Ostrander’s council. Julie Guy, Joseph H. Proemm and incumbent Robert J. Taylor each filed petitions to run for the office.

In the village of Shawnee Hills, incumbent Mayor Pat Monahan will face a challenge from Carol J. Kender.

Three candidates – incumbent James E. Andres, Larry A. Beard and Steve Cole – will vie for one open seat on the Brown Township Board of Trustees.

Frank Dantonio, brother of Michigan State head football coach Mark Dantonio, will seek to oust incumbent Leo Wilhelm from his Genoa Township Board of Trustees seat.

With Bob Fracasso not seeking re-election to the Harlem Township Fiscal Office position, Julie Debolt and Sherrie Steele will seek to replace him.

Liberty Township Fiscal Officer Mark Gerber will face a challenge from Nancy Denutte.

Two people – Rick Clunk and Edward R. Reely – will vie for an open seat on the Marlboro Township Board of Trustees.

Incumbent Ed Snodgrass will face a challenge from Douglas P. Crowl in the race for one open seat on the Porter Township Board of Trustees.

In Radnor Township, incumbent Trustee Teresa J. Watkins will face a challenge from Jim Cochran.

Incumbent Scioto Township Trustee Thomas R. Brown will face a challenge from Ralph Moseley. The race for open fiscal officer position in the township will be decided between Kathy Melvin and Julie L. Regula.

The Delaware County Board of Elections is set to meet on Tuesday to certify candidates’ petitions. The deadline is Aug. 17.
