Delaware County Farm Bureau will host “Benefit in the Barn, A Symphony on the Farm,” a celebration of agriculture and music, on Saturday, Aug. 29, with proceeds benefiting local hunger initiatives.

“This is a brand-new event,” said Tim Barnes, president of Delaware County Farm Bureau. “We’re looking forward to a fun night of music and food while supporting an important cause in our community.”

The event takes place on Hardscrabble Farms at 2514 Skinner Road, Delaware. The farm has been operated by the Skinner family for more than a century.

Tickets include a picnic-style dinner compliments of City Barbeque beginning at 6 p.m. and music by the Central Ohio Symphony commencing at 7:30 p.m. and playing until dusk. Guests are encouraged bring a blanket or lawn chair.

Ty Higgins, of Ohio’s Country Journal and Ohio Ag Net, will emcee the event. Higgins has extensive on-air experience and can currently be heard anchoring Ohio Ag Net’s afternoon programming. He also hosts “Farm and Country,” a nationally syndicated weekly radio program featuring agriculture industry news for producers, farming insights for consumers and music.

Event tickets are $25 and can be obtained online by visiting BenefitintheBarn.eventbrite.com. Farm Bureau members can purchase discounted tickets for $20 by calling the county office at 740-363-1613.

All proceeds from ticket sales and donations during the event benefit local partners of the Mid-Ohio Food Bank. “We are incredibly grateful for community partners like the Delaware County Farm Bureau for their commitment to our hungry neighbors through the celebration of local agriculture and music,” said Mid-Ohio Foodbank President & CEO Matt Habash. “Donations from Benefit in the Barn will connect healthy, fresh food to so many families who are struggling in our community.”

Sponsors include Delaware County Bank, Charles H. and Betty J. Sheets Fund of the Delaware County Foundation, City Barbeque, Richwood Bank, Wright & Moore Law Co. LPA, Price Farms Organics Ltd., Ohio’s Country Journal, Seed Consultants Inc., Ohio Corn & Wheat Growers, and Ohio Beef Council.
