Local students receive merit scholarships

A number of Delaware County students received National Merit Scholarships last week from the National Merit Scholarship Corp.

The students from Delaware County are:

• Shrey D. Mahajan, a student at Olentangy High School. Mahajan hopes to study medicine and was given the National Merit PPG Industries Foundation Community Scholarship.

• Adam R. Hiltz, a student at Olentangy Liberty High School. Hiltz hopes to study biomedical engineering and was given the National Merit Nationwide Insurance Foundation Scholarship.

• Avivah J. Wang, a student at Olentangy Liberty High School. Wang hopes to study economics and was given the National Merit Cardinal Health Foundation Scholarship.

• Naishil V. Patel, a student at Olentangy Orange High School. Patel hopes to study computer science and was given the National Merit Nationwide Insurance Foundation Scholarship.

• Rohit M. Rajendran, a student at Olentangy Orange High School. Rajendran hopes to study computer science and was given the National Merit Nationwide Insurance Foundation Scholarship.

The students were selected from a pool of more than 1.5 million high school juniors who entered the competition. The scholarships range in amount and can be used to pay for college.

The National Merit Scholarship Corp. reports about 7,500 students will be selected to receive scholarships.
