Bank robber sought by deputies

Delaware County sheriff’s deputies are still searching for a man they say robbed the First Merit Bank in Lewis Center Tuesday afternoon.

This is the third bank robbery in Lewis Center in a month. Deputies say the latest robbery is unrelated to two other Key Bank robberies in Lewis Center in July. An arrest has been made in one of the previous robberies.

Deputies report that at 4:20 p.m. Tuesday a man entered the First Merit Bank at 1156 E. Powell Road and handed the teller a note demanding cash.

The teller fulfilled his request and the man left the area in a black or dark blue late 1990s Chevy Impala, heading east on East Powell.

Deputies would not disclose how much money was taken in the robbery.

Authorities describe the robber as muscular, about 6-foot-1, 180 pounds, and fair-skinned with facial stubble. He also had “LOVE” tattooed on his left-hand knuckles, deputies said. At the time of the robbery, he was wearing a black ball cap with a white letter “C,” a blue denim shirt, pants and large women’s sunglasses.

Officials added that he was talking on a white cellphone when he entered the bank.

No one was harmed during the robbery.

Residents with any information should contact the sheriff’s office at 740-833-2800.
