Free weekend program focuses on pollinators

Preservation Parks of Delaware has several programs coming up.

They include:

• “Passion for Pollinators.” Saturday, Aug. 29, and Sunday, Aug. 30, from noon to 4 p.m. Learn about the relationship between plants and insects through activities, displays and a craft. Participants will also learn how to attract bees, butterflies and other beneficial insects through the use of native plants. Refreshments and a movie are included. All ages. Deer Haven Preserve, 4183 Liberty Road.

• “Preschool Park Pals: Magical Monarchs.” Tuesday, Sept. 8, 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. Ages 4 and 5, accompanied by an adult. Deer Haven Preserve. Registration required by Sept. 1.

• “Homeschool Adventures: Learning about Lepidoptera.” Thursday, Sept. 10, 8 p.m. Learn about the differences between moths and butterflies. Join a naturalist in catching moths and see live butterflies. A campfire will end the weather-dependent program. Ages 7-12, accompanied by an adult. Emily Traphagen Preserve, 5094 Seldom Seen Road. Registration required by Sept. 3.

• “Hike for Health.” Saturday, Sept. 26, 10 a.m. The hike is free, but registration is suggested for your first hike in this series. A $5 fee is required for a T-shirt; participants will collect iron-on patches at each subsequent hike. All ages. Blues Creek Preserve, 9627 Fontanelle Road. Register by Sept. 21, and include T-shirt size.
