No one was injured in a fire at the Domtar diaper plant on U.S. 42 South Thursday.

Delaware firefighters responded to a reported fire in the plant’s duct work at 12:17 p.m. Firefighters arrived at 12:22 p.m. but were not able to access the fire until 12:52, they said.

Fire officials said the fire was contained to the duct work over the maintenance shop and no one was injured as a result of the fire. Fire officials said the fire had been extinguished by 12:58.

Fire officials estimate the damage was about $50,000 but wouldn’t know a precise number until after employees of Domtar are able to inspect the damage.

The cause of the fire is unknown and remains under investigation, but authorities said they have no reason to be suspicious.

Officials from the plant said they had no comment about the incident.

Fire officials said units from the Tri Township Fire Department, Liberty Township Fire Department, Delaware County EMS, Elm Valley Fire District and Concord Township Fire Department all assisted.
