Folks attending last Saturday’s Sunbury Sizzle & Sounds may have noticed a table with information about a “Sydney’s Soldiers 5K Run, Walk, Ride, Roll” fundraiser to benefit Sydney Hatfield.

Sydney, the daughter of Sunbury Mayor Tommy Hatfield, was recently diagnosed with glioblastoma, a rare, inoperable brain cancer. Fundraising has been underway to help the family with the expenses that accrue as she battles this disease.

Event organizer Tammy White said the 5-kilometer event on Sept. 13 will a fun, non-competitive, all-inclusive community event for runners, walkers, cyclists, strollers and roller bladers.

The event will start at Sunbury Christian Church, 250 Rainbow Ave., and include a full 5K route and a shorter route.

For more information, go to Facebook and search for “Sydney’s Soldiers 5K Run, Walk, Ride, Roll,” and scroll down to the registration form. Participants should print and mail the form by Sept. 1 to be guaranteed a race T-shirt.

The race registration fee is $25 or $50 for a family. The family rate includes two T-shirts; additional shirts are $10 each.

Sunbury Christian is the church home of the Hatfield family. White said 5K participants are welcome to attend the 10:30 a.m. worship service before the race and should feel free to attend in running clothes.

Participants are asked to park at the VFW, 435 Rainbow; a shuttle will be available from 10 to 10:20 a.m., and from noon to 12:20 p.m.

Participants not attending the church service are asked to arrive at noon to allow church traffic to clear the area and cut down on traffic congestion.

Race packets for registered runners (walkers, riders and rollers) may be picked up at Kore 7 Fitness in the Kroger Plaza from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, and from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12.
