Main Street Delaware is inviting the public to mark their calendars for the July 1 “Chalk It Up!” First Friday sidewalk chalk art competition sponsored by A Little Simplicity.
Sidewalk squares are available now for $10 each. The community will determine “people’s choice” prize winners in child and adult categories. Funds raised will support future Main Street Delaware beautification, education and family-friendly events.
Artists of all ages have been invited to participate in Main Street Delaware’s chalk event, organizers say.
Participants may “purchase” a sidewalk square, bring chalk and “Chalk It Up!” When you arrive, pick a square on Sandusky Street between Central Avenue and Spring Street or on William or Winter streets between Franklin and Union streets. A volunteer will be around to check in participants and register squares, organizers say.
Participants may begin working any time that day. Participants may preregister or register the night of the event.
The business with the most works of art downtown will also win a prize.
The First Friday event is July 1 from 6 to 8 p.m.
Judging will be online at the Main Street Delaware Facebook page. Likes will be counted as votes and will be counted until 9 p.m. July 3. The winner will be announced on the Main Street Delaware Facebook page on July 4.
“People’s Choice” prizes will be awarded based on voting by the public on the Main Street Delaware Facebook page.
