Barn getting Genoa bicentennial logo

Members of Genoa Township’s parks advisory board have been planning a Genoa Township bicentennial celebration, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 20.

The celebration begins at 3 p.m. at McNamara Park and includes food, family-oriented activities and games.

During the July 7 Genoa Township trustees meeting, parks board members Mark Harmon and David Blair asked trustees to approve spending $3,950 for a Genoa Township bicentennial logo to be painted on the red barn at the east end of the park.

The logo would be painted by Ohio barn painter Scott Hagan, the artist who did Ohio bicentennial barn paintings in every Ohio county during the state’s 2003 bicentennial.

“The McNamara Park barn is a landmark,” said Trustee Karl Gephardt after trustees approved the expenditure. “We will do anything we can do to improve it.”

Harmon and Blair also noted that the barn could receive a basic renovation for about $12,000 – siding repairs, interior beam repairs, roof repairs and complete repainting.
