Powell man killed in traffic crash

A 44-year-old Powell man died Friday from injuries he received in a traffic crash on U.S. 42 in Union County Thursday evening.

Dead is Salil Nair, 44, of Powell.

The crash occurred on U.S. 42 one-tenth of a mile south of milepost 6 in Union County’s Jerome Township at 7:04 p.m. Thursday, according to troopers from the Marysville post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Nair, who was operating a blue 2016 Harley Davidson motorcycle on U.S. 42 South, traveled across the center line and was struck by a tan 2004 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Rick Cramer, 48, of Marengo, who was traveling north, troopers said.

Nair was transported by Jerome Township EMS to Riverside Methodist Hospital. While at Riverside Methodist, Nair succumbed to his injuries on Friday evening, troopers said.

The crash is still under investigation, troopers said.

A helmet was located at the scene, troopers said, but it is unknown if it was in use at the time of the crash.

Drugs and or alcohol is not suspected, troopers said.

Cramer was wearing a safety belt at the time of the crash. He sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

Jerome Township Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.
