A Delaware County man was killed in a traffic crash in Marion County on Wednesday.

Dead is Ike Stephens Jr. 54, of Ashley.

Troopers from the Marion post said the crash occurred Wednesday about 2:15 p.m. on State Route 529 near Salem Road in Richland Township in Marion County.

The crash involved a 2000 white Chevrolet 1500 driven by Stephens and a 2015 gray Dodge Grand Caravan driven by John W. Nagel, 56, of Marion.

Troopers say that Stephens was traveling east on SR 529, and Nagel was traveling west on SR 529. The Chevrolet went off the right side of the road and Stephens over-corrected, crossing the center line and striking the Dodge head-on. The Dodge went off the right side of the road and came to rest in the ditch. The Chevrolet rotated and came to rest, facing west in the westbound lane.

Nagel, who was wearing his seat belt, was trapped in his vehicle and was freed by mechanical means, troopers said. He was transported to Marion General Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Stephens was not wearing his seat belt and was ejected, troopers said. Coroner Marc Comianos pronounced Stephens dead at the scene.

Fort Morrow, First Consolidated Fire Department and First Advance ambulance assisted at the scene. troopers said.

The crash remains under investigation.
