Michigan resident killed in US 23 crash

The Delaware Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on Saturday on US 23 in Troy Township.

The crash, at approximately 7:37 p.m, claimed the life of a Michigan resident.

Janelle E. Thompson, 23, of Roopville, Georgia, was driving a gray 2013 Chevy Malibu southbound on US 23 in the left lane. Ashik K. Sarki, 24, of Kentwood, Michigan, was driving a black 2013 Toyota Camry southbound on US 23 behind Thompson.

Kirk S. Kidwell, 49, of East Lansing, Michigan, was driving northbound on US 23 in the left lane.. Thompson slowed abruptly for the vehicle ahead of her making a left turn into a crossover to perform a U-turn.

Sarki traveled off the left side of the roadway into the grass median, across the crossover and then struck the left front fender of Thompson’s vehicle. Sarki continued left of center into the northbound lanes of US 23 and was struck on the right side by Kidwell’s vehicle.

Thompson had two passengers in her vehicle, Nicholas Mundy, 24, of Crestline, and Jillian Thompson, 2, of Roopville, Georgia. Mundy, Janelle and Jillian Thompson did not sustain any injuries from the crash. Kidwell was transported to Riverside Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Sarki had one passenger in his vehicle, Kushila Sarki, 54, of Kentwood, Michigan, who sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Ashik Sarki was transported to Grant Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The Ohio Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Tri Township Fire and Delaware County EMS.

Alcohol/drug use is not suspected and the crash remains under investigation.
