A Lancaster man was sentenced to four years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to six counts of unlawful sexual conduct.

Brent Russell Plummer, 27, was in Delaware County Common Pleas Court Friday morning to be sentenced on six counts of unlawful sexual conduct, third-degree felonies, after admitting in June that he had sex with a 14-year-old Delaware County girl.

Plummer originally faced nine counts of rape, first-degree felonies; nine counts of unlawful sexual conduct, third-degree felonies; and three counts of gross sexual imposition, fourth-degree felonies. After reaching a plea agreement with prosecutors, he pleaded guilty to six charges of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor and the other charges were dismissed.

At the hearing Friday, Plummer’s attorney, Scott Wolf, said that Plummer and the girl met online and met in person several times for sexual conduct. Wolf said his client was reckless for not learning the girl’s age, but said there was plenty of evidence in thousands of messages to show that the relationship was consensual.

“I didn’t know [the girl’s age]” Plummer told Gormley. “I’m not a bad person.”

Assistant Prosecutor Andrew Bigler also presented two victim impact letters to Gormley, one from the victim and one from the victim’s caretaker. Gormley reviewed the letters but they were not read during the hearing.

After hearing from both sides of the case, Gormley said the victim had apparently suffered psychological harm and sentenced Plummer to 48 months in prison for each of the six unlawful sexual conduct charges.

However, Gormley ordered that these sentences be served concurrently. Plummer was also credited the 192 days he has spent in the Delaware County Jail since his arrest in February.

After his release from prison, Plummer will face five years of post-release control and will have to register as a tier 2 sex offender for 25 years.

Prosecutors said the incidents took place between Jan. 1 and Feb. 22 when Plummer was arrested. Genoa Township police began an investigation after a third party brought the victim to police late in February and asked to file a report about the conduct. A warrant was issued and Plummer was taken into custody a short time later.

Plummer was indicted by a grand jury on March 3. The nine unlawful sexual conduct charges were added on June 17.
