The Delaware City Schools Board of Education approved a number of staffing changes and approved payment in lieu of providing transport to families who live within the district that send their kids to other schools.

At the meeting the board approved the resignation of Kristie Price, an educational assistant for the district, Brian Smith, a substitute nurse for the district and Susan Kubelik, an administrative assistant at Woodward Elementary.

In other action, the board:

• Approved a number of employments including John Goodrich and Donna Park, custodians at Conger Elementary and Dempsey Middle School respectively; Dawna Tompkins, an educational assistant at Schultz Elementary as well as Joe Weatherford and Matthew Lewis, who were hired on as bus drivers.

• Approved payments in lieu of providing transportation to families of students who live in the district but attend school elsewhere. School officials report these payments are typically $250 a student. This applies to students who attended schools such as Grace Community School or Delaware Christian School.

• Reviewed and approved the Tree Conservation Easement. School officials say that as part of the building expansion projects throughout the district, several mature trees had to be removed from various locations. Officials said the City of Delaware requires that trees be replaced and the school agreed to plant replacement trees at many sites and formally protect the wetlands area behind Dempsey.

The board met in the board room at Willis Education Center.
