Board approves staffing changes and insurance renewals

The Delaware City Schools Board of Education approved several staffing changes at its meeting Monday night and approved renewals of the district’s health insurance policy.

At the meeting, the board approved the resignation of Heather Webb, a science teacher at Woodward for the purposes of retirement.

School officials said Webb has been with the district 30 years, two years as a substitute and 28 years as a teacher. Webb reportedly taught elementary for about 10 years before moving to Willis as a science teacher. She is completing her career at Willis this year teaching 5th grade science for Woodward students and her last day will be May 26.

The board also approved the resignations of Amy Santarelli, a cook/cashier at Hayes, and Traci Reed, a School Aged Child Care employee at the district.

Additionally, the board approved employments for Tracie Lee, an educational assistant at Woodward; Aleece Jester, an educational assistant at Smith; and Brenda Schertzer, a cook/cashier at Dempsey.

In other business, the board:

• Approved several minor staffing changes such as approving employees to work as after-school detention monitors at Hayes High School and Dempsey Middle School and approving supplemental contracts for several coaches and mentor teachers.

• Approved the renewal of their current basic life and personal insurance policy with MetLife. According the the board agenda, there will be no change in the rates for employees from the rates in 2016.

Likewise, the board will consider approving contracts with EyeMed Vision Care for vision insurance and will consider approving contracts with Trustmark as the district provider for voluntary accident insurance and universal life insurance.

• Approved the district calendar including the upcoming production of Our Town at Hayes on Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, the Harlem Wizards basketball fundraiser at Hayes on Oct. 27 and the Sakata Japan Cultural Exchange visit from Oct. 28 to Nov. 2.

The next board meeting will be on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
