First Thursday Recital Series welcomes organist

This Thursday, at 12:15 p.m, organist Alex Armstrong will be the soloist at the First Thursday Noontime Recital Series at Asbury United Methodist Church.

A 2016 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University where he studied organ with Professors Robert Griffith and Jason Keefer. Armstrong is now a graduate student at the University of Oklahoma. During his OWU years, Alex served as Junior Choir accompanist at Asbury UMC and as organist at St. Andrew’s Christian Church in Dublin. He began his organ study in 2007 at the Asbury Organ Academy, under the direction of Sally Casto. For his recital, Armstrong has chosen to perform works by Lubeck, Brahms, Bach and Guilmant.

In addition to pursuing his organ study at Oklahoma, Armstrong was organ intern at University Lutheran Church during the fall semester. He is currently organist at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Midwest City, Oklahoma. The University of Oklahoma Organ Department also includes the American Organ Institute where the skills of organ building and organ maintenance are taught. He serves as a graduate assistant in the organ shop.

Asbury United Methodist Church is located at 55 W. Lincoln Ave. The church is handicapped accessible from its rear parking lot entrance.
