March trial set for man charged with rape

A Delaware man was indicted in December by a Delaware County Grand Jury for allegedly raping a Delaware woman in June.

Ronald Eugene Hoover, 53, of 5 Bank Street, Delaware, was indicted on one count of rape, a first-degree felony; one count of soliciting, a third-degree felony; two counts of gross sexual imposition, fourth-degree felonies; a count of sexual battery, a third-degree felony; and a count of burglary, a third-degree felony.

City of Delaware police report that on the evening of June 19 Hoover entered the Park Avenue apartment of a Delaware woman without being invited and offered to pay her to engage in sexual intercourse. The alleged victim told police that she declined the money and Hoover raped her.

According to the indictment, filed on Dec. 22, the victim’s ability to resist or consent was “substantially impaired because of a mental or physical condition” and further states that Hoover knew her ability to resist or consent was impaired.

Hoover appeared in Delaware County Common Pleas Court on Tuesday and entered not guilty pleas to the charges. A trial was scheduled for March 14.

Hoover was in the Delaware County Jail Tuesday afternoon.

Other individuals indicted by the grand jury include:

• Joshua A. Jones, of 22 Euclid Avenue, Delaware, on one count of theft, a fourth-degree felony and a count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony. An arraignment has been set for Feb. 6 at 3:45 p.m.

• Veronika R. Stephens, of 226 West Central Avenue, Apt. 13, Delaware, on one count of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony and one count of identity fraud, a fifth-degree felony. An arraignment has been scheduled for Jan. 9 at 10:45 a.m.

• Michael D. Smale, of Delaware, on four counts of gross sexual imposition, two third-degree felonies and two fourth-degree felonies. An arraignment has been set for Jan. 6 at 11:30 a.m.

• Robin R. Nobile, of Blacklick, Ohio, on one count of assault and three counts of domestic violence, three first-degree misdemeanors. An arraignment has been set for Feb. 17 at 9 a.m.

Arraignments for the remaining individuals have not been set:

• Daniel Coleman, of Columbus, on two counts of nonsupport or contributing to nonsupport of dependants, fifth-degree felonies.

• Decarlos D. Hureskin, on seven counts of domestic violence, five third-degree felonies and two fifth-degree felonies; three counts of violating a protection order, one third-degree felony and two first-degree misdemeanors and one count of menacing by stalking, a fourth-degree felony.

• Michael L. Crate, of Columbus, on one count of failure to appear, a fourth-degree felony.

• Matthew P. Taylor, of Springfield, Ohio, on one count of identity fraud, a third-degree felony; four counts of forgery, fifth-degree felonies; three counts of theft, fifth-degree felonies and one count of obstructing official business, a second-degree misdemeanor.

• Matthew A. Haller, of Columbus, on one count of receiving stolen property, a fourth-degree felony.

• Paul J. Williams, of Columbus, on one count of failure to comply with order or signal of police officer, a third-degree felony; two counts of breaking and entering, one fourth-degree felony and one fifth-degree felony; one count of safe-cracking, a fourth-degree felony; one count of criminal tools, a fifth-degree felony; one count of theft, a fifth-degree felony; and a count of criminal damaging, a second-degree misdemeanor.

• Justin S. Hull, of 64 West Lincoln Avenue, Delaware, on one count of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony and one count of identity fraud, a fifth-degree felony.

• Michael O. Herrell, of 15 Maple Street, Delaware, on one count of receiving stolen property, a fifth-degree felony.
