Recycling location closing temporarily

Starting Jan. 23, Rumpke Waste & Recycling will remove all recycling containers from Buckeye Valley East Elementary School due to construction.

Oxford Township and Ashley village residents are encouraged to take their recycling to Westfield Township Hall located at 848 County Road 21 in Ashley.

For this location, paper and cardboard must be kept separate from other recyclables. Questions can be directed to the Delaware General Health District at 740-368-1700.

BZA meeting canceled

The City of Delaware’s board of zoning appeals meeting for Jan. 11 has been canceled.

Arts Festival gives grant awards

The Delaware Art Festival Association has announced its competitive grant awards to teachers in Delaware County schools.

The main purpose of the Delaware Art Festival Association is producing the Arts Festival each summer in order to provide scholarships in the visual arts. The festival also gives a stipend to the Delaware County Library for books on Arts and Crafts and awards competitive grants to art teachers in the local schools.

The total grant award this year is $10,000. Winners of individual grants are Kim Roberts of Ventures Academy, Robin Clay of Buckeye Valley Schools, Jennilyn Haer and Dawn Norris of Big Walnut Schools, Amy Schultz and Melanie Harry of Delaware City Schools and Sarah Butler, Jennifer Sosa and Philip Stoll of Olentangy Local Schools.

The grants provided materials for ceramic work and silk screening, kilns, pottery wheels, camera lenses, drawing tablets and other items to enhance education in the visual arts in their classrooms this year and beyond.

Friends of Library receive grant

Friends of the Delaware County District Library have received a grant from the Robert F. Beard Foundation to bring children’s author Troy Cummings to the Delaware District Library in 2017.

Cummings is best known for his “Notebook of Doom” series. This twelve book series contains titles such as “Flurry of the Snombies,” “Whack of the P-Rex” and “Rise of the Balloon Goons.”
