Christmas on Sunbury’s Square Saturday

The village of Sunbury’s 34th annual “Christmas on the Square” celebration is this Saturday.

Events begin at 4:30 and continue through 8 p.m.

Christmas on the Square features a 5:30 p.m. lighted Christmas parade with NBC4’s Today Weekend Edition anchors Mindy Drayer and Harrison Hove serving as parade announcers. The parade stages at 5 p.m. on Burrer Drive next to Community Library.

Do you have a letter for Santa? Whether you’re 8 years old, or 80, get out a pen and paper and compose a Christmas wish list to Mr. Claus, because the postal mail truck will be in the Christmas parade this year and will be collecting Santa letters, but during the parade only.

Mail carriers will be walking alongside the mail truck during the parade, passing out candy canes and collecting letters to send to Santa (no stamp is needed). Be advised that this year the mail truck will not be sitting at the gazebo after the parade is over.

The evening includes visits with Santa, Christmas craft & gift fair, a holiday open house for local merchants around Sunbury Village Square, a doughnut-eating contest and more.

Other evening highlights include a live nativity, courtesy of Central Baptist Church, and the Sunbury Lions Club’s annual Christmas tree sale, with proceeds going directly to Big Walnut Friends Who Share.

The Sunbury Lions Club Christmas tree sale, located on the north side of Sunbury Village Square, features more than 300 trees, all priced from $20 to $75 and in sizes ranging from 5 feet to 12 feet.
