Delaware County commissioners reluctantly accepted administrator Tim Hansley’s resignation at their meeting Thursday.

Hansley, who has worked five years for the county, announced last week that he will retire on Jan. 15. He turns 70 on Christmas Day.

“I will greatly miss this position and the people that I have worked with,” Hansley said. “I’ve always been proud to say I work for Delaware County, and I’ll be proud to say I used to work here. I think the future is very bright for this county.”

“There are so many things that are complex about county government, and you’ve been so helpful in getting me through the maze,” said Commissioner Jeff Benton.

“The last five years have been wonderful to work for you,” said Assistant County Administrator Dawn Huston.

“Thank you for your service,” said Commissioner Barb Lewis. “The wealth of experience you bring, you’ve been such a mentor to me.”

“It’s been a pleasure working with you,” said Commissioner Gary Merrell. “Your passion for this county is exceptional, and I’m glad to hear you’ll still be in this area.”

Commissioners also approved renewals of child placement services contracts between the county’s department of Job and Family Services and Adriel School in West Liberty (for $90,000); Buckeye Ranch in Grove City ($150,000); The Village Network ($140,000); St. Vincent Family Centers in Columbus ($200,000); and Ohio Guidestone in Berea ($20,000).

JFS assistant director Angela Thomas said the contracts are exempt from a straight bidding process, and that county social workers are always checking to see if the homes are good fits for children.

In other business, commissioners:

• Approved appropriating property from four owners via the “quick take” procedure under Ohio law for the East Powell Road widening project. Access is required on Dec. 18.

• Heard that economic development director Bob Lamb has secured LeanOhio funding for training in various departments.

• Reappointed Larry Cline to the Rural Zoning Commission and Teresa Watkins to the Board of Zoning Appeals.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding for the Work Investment Act Local Area 7 One Stop Operations to operate the region’s workforce development system and the OhioMeansJobs center.

• Approved extending the contract for job coaching services and work readiness programs between Marion Goodwill Industries Inc. and the county.
