The Ohio State Highway Patrol along with the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office is partnering with the Delaware General Health District’s Child Passenger Safety Program and the SAFE Delaware County Coalition to help reduce child traffic fatalities in the wake of recent traffic crashes in which improperly installed car seats contributed to the deaths of two children.

This new initiative is aimed to increase the ability of law enforcement officers to detect major and potentially harmful car seat misuse. Further detail will be discussed at the:

Child Passenger Safety Press Conference at the Orange Township Fire Station #361 Car Seat Inspection Event on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 10:30 a.m.

In addition to the awareness training, the Delaware post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol will have Trooper Joe Adams certified as a child passenger safety technician. Adams will join Delaware Sherriff’s Deputy Stephanie Herrington as one of two law enforcement officers to be certified.

The Health District’s SAFE Coalition has formed a child passenger safety task force to create and implement a plan for expanding car seat safety awareness training among law enforcement and more.
