On Sunday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. the Asbury Arts Series, a part of the outreach program at Asbury United Methodist Church in Delaware, will offer a concert of music entitled “A Celebration of Psalms.

The music, inspired by texts from the Psalms, will include works for organ as well as offerings by the Asbury Chancel, Junior, and Bell Choirs, each performing as individual entities and in a variety of ensemble combinations. In addition to instrumental works for bells, organ, and organ and flute, the program includes choral movements from larger works by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Bernstein and Rutter intermingled with anthems composed primarily for use in church services.

The music moves from poignant and tender interpretations of Psalm 23 to uplifting and highly energized settings of Psalm 150. The performing groups are under the leadership of Carol Brulotte, director of the Bell Choir, Sally Casto, director of the Junior Choir, and Robert Nims, director of the Chancel Choir.

Sally Casto is organist for the event, Joan Maxwell is the flutist, and Jan Swanson, Music Associate at Asbury, is the piano accompanist.

Asbury Arts Series concerts are offered to the public without admission charge. A freewill offering is received to help defray expenses of the series. The church, at 55 W. Lincoln Ave., is located on the southwest corner of Lincoln Ave. and North Franklin Street.
