School board approves staffing changes and change order

The Delaware City Schools Board of Education approved a number of staffing changes, one student trip and a budget increase for a construction project at their meeting Monday night.

The meetings was held in the board meeting room at Willis Education Center.

The board approved a change order in the amount of $6,115.73 for a contract with Feldkamp Enterprises Inc., a mechanical contractor, for additionally work at Smith Elementary School.

The construction at Smith will add classroom additions to accommodate fifth-grade students and will remove trailers currently being used as classrooms. The improvements will also add a dedicated gym to eliminate shared cafeteria/gym.

After the change order was approved the contract with Feldkamp is now in the amount of $200,115.73.

Additionally, the board approved the retirement of Lisa Bik, a kindergarten teacher at Conger Elementary School. School officials report that Bik has taught at the district for nine years. Bik is set to retire Oct. 31, 2017.

The board also approved the resignations of Alexandra Miller, a kindergarten teacher at Schultz and Rebecca Houts, a first-grade teacher at Carlisle Elementary School. Miller and Houts’ resignations will be effective May 26.

The board then approved the employments of Sheri Faulkner, a School Aged Child Care Assistant for the district; Corwin Ratliff, a SACC program assistant for the district; Ashley Millet, a SACC program assistant for the district; Regina Skidmore, a SACC program assistant at Woodward Elementary School and Stephanie Bohmer, an educational assistant at Conger Elementary School.

The board also approved the Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) trip to the Drill Dynamics Summer Seminar in Dallas, Georgia from June 19 to June 22.

The board will meet two more times before the end of the school year, at 6 p.m. on May 1 and on May 17.

Graduation is set for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20 on Cornell Field and Stadium and the last day for students is May 25.
