In 1941 as the world plunged into World War II, school teachers Pete Dalrymple and Ruth Griffith were married in Mt. Gilead, Ohio. In hardly any time at all, they were separated by Pete’s U.S. Army service in Europe.

The couple exchanged letters almost daily throughout his 3-year deployment. While Ruth’s letters are lost, we have Pete’s letters and Ruth’s columns that she wrote as editor of the Morrow County Sentinel.

Their daughter, Tam Dalrymple will present the June community program for the Delaware County Historical Society on Thursday, June 15 at 7 p.m. at the Barn at Stratford, 2690 Stratford Rd., Delaware. It will include readings from her book “Letters to the Editor”, juxtaposing her father’s letters with her mother’s newspaper articles.

Woven into the talk, she will touch on the resources used in compiling the book. The hand-bound version of the book will be available for viewing after the program.

The program is free and open to the public. No ticket or reservation is required, however an opportunity to make a donation to support the Society’s programs will be provided.
