The Olentangy Board of Education approved Thursday two collective bargaining agreements and salary increases for non-union employees and school district administrators.

The approved agreements are with two unions, which represent bus drivers; and maintenance, custodial and field service staff.

The new agreement with bus drivers will increase the maximum hours to prepare them prior to the start of the school year; and the maximum number of years of experience credit awarded to outside hires in order to attract qualified and experienced drivers.

For maintenance staff, the agreement will revise vacation leave to align with other classified groups and add language to allow the the principal to interview candidates for the head custodian position at the new Berlin High School, instead of being a bid position by seniority.

The one-year contracts will provide a 2.25 percent cost of living wages increase for the 2017-18 school year and will take effect July 1. Copies of the agreement are available on the school’s website.

The school board approved a one-year contract with the district’s teacher’s union nearly eight months ago. That contract included no increase for base pay, a return on experience credit for teachers employed during the fiscal year 2013 and a 2.25 percent stipend for teachers not employed at that time.

The board also approved a 2.25 percent-increase for non-union employees and non-union food service workers, to take effect July 1, and for district administrators, the superintendent and treasurer, to take effect Aug. 1.

Superintendent Mark Raiff’s salary increased to $167,281 from $163,600. Olentangy schools Treasurer Emily K. Hatfield’s salary increased to $127,812.50 from $125,000, when she was hired last year.

The salary increases are cost-of-living adjustments, a district spokesman said.

The school board announced its in negotiations to extend its three-year contract with Raiff, who was hired in June 2015.

In other business, the board:

• Approved to hire Bryan “Buck” Weaver as the athletic director of Orange High School. Weaver worked as a school teacher for Olentangy schools in 2006. He worked as the athletic director for Westerville South High School since the 2013-14 school year. He replaces John Betz, who took the same position at Berlin High School.
