Music in the Village is Friday

Central Ohio native Delyn Christian is the featured act this week at Music in the Village in Shawnee Hills. The show begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the Village Pavilion, located on West Cherokee Drive behind the Shawnee Hills police station. Admission is free.

Christian, a veteran of more than 30 years in the music industry, covers hits by Joe Cocker, The Beatles, John Prine, Eric Clapton, to name a few, and performs original tunes. He also has his own band, called The Fret Shop Band, and during his career has opened for Heart, Dan Fogelberg, McGuffy Lane, Jim Messina, Donovan, Roger McGuinn, Georgia Satellites, Tanya Tucker, and others.

Family Farm Chores at Stratford

Stratford Ecological Center invites residents to join in Family Farm Chores from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Take a turn at feeding the goats and sheep, put your hand under a hen while collecting eggs, pacify the hungry hogs with homegrown grains and other chores. Admission is $12 per family. Horse show at fairgrounds

The Ohio Dressage Horse Show is set for Saturday and Sunday at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The show is open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the main riding area. For information, contact Wendy Hovey at 614-314-1970.

Olentangy Men’s Chorus performs Sunday

The Harmony in the Park concert series returns to Bicentennial Park on Sunday. The Olentangy Men’s Chorus is scheduled to perform at 7 p.m. Admission is free. In case of rain, the show will be moved to the Delaware Community Center YMCA at 1121 S. Houk Road. Those attending are encouraged to take lawn chairs since seating is limited.

Jazz At The Amp series

Jazz at the Amp, a free jazz series, runs Saturdays in August at the Westerville Amphitheater, Alum Creek Park, 221 W. Main St., Westerville. Remaining concerts: Aug. 12, saxophonist Deon Yates at 6:30 p.m., trumpeter Cindy Bradley at 7:15 p.m.; Aug. 19, Nini Love’s JazzySide Quintet at noon, Tim Dvorkin Quartet at 1:15 p.m., Rendition at 2:30 p.m., vocalist Nichole Davis at 3:45 p.m., Deeptones at 5 p.m., saxophonist Paul Taylor at 6:30 p.m.

Hound Hike with Preservation Parks

Preservation Parks presents A Hound Hike at 6 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 14 at Gallant Woods Park. Dog lovers can bring their canine friends on a walk with a naturalist. Parks & rec board to meet

The City of Delaware Parks & Recreation Board will meet at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15. The board will meet in city council chambers at 1 S. Sandusky St., Delaware.

Get ready for ‘Turtle Time’

Little Adventurers “Turtle Time” will be presented at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 15 at Deer Haven Park, 4183 Liberty Road. Children ages 0-5 and their parents or caregivers can learn all about turtles at this free program. The program is designed to introduce very young children to the outdoors and to basic nature concepts. A short hike will be held at the end of the program for those interested. Benefit in the Barn is back

Benefit in the Barn is a celebration of agriculture and music with proceeds benefitting partners of the Delaware County Hunger Alliance. It’s scheduled for 6 p.m. on Aug. 19 at Dawson Farms, 2831 Bowtown Road, Delaware. It includes a special performance by the Central Ohio Symphony plus dinner catered by City Barbeque and a cash bar. Gospel sing at Mingo Park

A gospel sing is planned for Saturday, Aug. 19 at Mingo Park. The event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at 3 Season Shelter. Admission is free. Seating will be available at picnic tables. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs.

Summer Splash & Cookout

Sunbury United Methodist Church will host Summer Splash & Cookout from 5 to 7 p.m. on Aug. 20 at its shelterhouse. The free event includes hamburgers, hot dogs, chips, watermelon and snow cones, and games like croquet, horseshoes, and badminton. Music by Contact. In the case of inclement weather all food and dry activities will be moved inside, but all water activities will be canceled.

Retired teachers to meet

The Delaware County Retired Teachers Association Summer Luncheon will be held at noon on Friday, Sept. 8 in the Terrace Room, Willow Brook Christian Village, 100 Willow Brook Way, Delaware.
