The annual Senior Career Expo, sponsored by Employment For Seniors showcases local recruiters along with skilled, experienced job seekers in Central Ohio.

The expo is designed to provide applicants (age 50 and older) with the information and resources needed to hone job search skills and discover new employment opportunities. This free event will be held on Thursday, Aug. 24 at Fawcett Center on The Ohio State University campus. Recruiters will be available from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m., with career workshops running from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. Participants do not need to register for the event and parking is free.

“This year’s event promises to be an incredible opportunity for our mature job seekers to actually meet, face-to-face, with nearly 70 great employers, states Dr. Carol Ventresca, executive director of Employment For Seniors. “Employers need mature, experienced individuals who are ready to do the job ‘day one.’ For older workers, opportunities can be difficult to find and the job search process has dramatically changed to meet today’s economy.

“The Career Expo not only provides participants with the opportunity to meet and talk with employers, but also an array of workshops to strengthen their job search techniques,” he added. “Our job seekers can interview and network with recruiters, get their resume reviewed, and learn new job search tips, all in one location.”

The 13 career workshops and computer training classes are geared to enhance the knowledge and expertise of mature job seekers. This year’s Employer Panel, answering the question “What Do Employers Want?” will feature representatives from AEP, the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, State Auto Insurance and Heart of Ohio Family Health, focusing on the skills and experiences needed in today’s businesses. The schedule will also include workshop topics such as resume development and accomplishment statements; interviewing skills; networking for life; identifying transferable skills, and employment resources through the Columbus Metropolitan Library and OhioMeansJobs.com.

Employment For Seniors, a non-profit organization, assists job seekers 50 years of age and older. Career Expo sponsors include the Central Ohio Area Agency on Aging, Franklin County Office on Aging, Nationwide Insurance, and BMI Federal Credit Union.
