David Todd, a worker at Elite Construction, shovels rubble into a pile Tuesday afternoon at Dempsey Middle School where a renovation project is underway. Todd said crews had knocked down walls and ripped up flooring to begin building an additional wing on the west side of the school. School officials say the wing will house the sixth-grade class and allow the school to adopt a traditional sixth- through eighth-grade model.
