The Delaware County Republican Party will name a successor to county Commissioner Ken O’Brien on Aug. 11.

O’Brien announced his surprise resignation Tuesday afternoon, citing changes in the state employee pension system that prompted him to retire.

On Thursday, the party announced the process by which it will appoint a county Republican to fill O’Brien’s unexpired term.

Applicants will be required to submit a resume, three letters of reference and a completed questionnaire, and then submit for an interview before the county Republican Party’s screening subcommittee.

Individuals who are interested in seeking the county Republican Party’s appointment may obtain a copy of the questionnaire by contacting chairman Jim Schuck at [email protected].

All questionnaires and other required materials must be submitted via email in PDF form by 5 p.m. July 15 to Nelson Katz, the party’s screening subcommittee chair, at [email protected], and to Schuck.

Candidates will be required to sign waivers for background checks and be responsible for paying the $100 cost, party officials said.

The county Republican Central Committee will meet on Aug. 11 at 7 p.m. at Northgate Church, 7097 E. State Route 37, Sunbury, to fill the vacancy. The meeting is open to the public.
