To kick off Sunbury’s bicentennial year, members of the Big Walnut Area Historical Society has installed a display of Sunbury memorabilia in the Community Library display case.

Myers Inn Museum curator Polly Horn said historical society president Damon Bower and secretary Carol Norris chose items for the case from the museum collection that was either donated to the historical society or on loan from other collectors.

“Some items are very old, including a papier maché head doll from 1820, a biology slate from 1887, a photograph of the 1915 Sunbury High School girls basketball team, Dr. Carpenter’s forceps from 1940s, and Gammit — a stock broker card game made and printed in Sunbury,” Horn said. “There’s also a 1940s Sunbury Grill menu, photos of major parts of the village’s history, and many other items are from previous celebrations of Sunbury history.”

Horn said area residents are encouraged to visit Community Library to view the display. In order to be ready for the library renovation that begins soon, the display will be removed Feb. 15.

Community Library is at 44 Burrer Drive in Sunbury, and is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
