SourcePoint observes senior month

This September, SourcePoint celebrates National Senior Center Month as part of the National Council on Aging’s campaign to promote a positive image of aging.

This year‘s theme, Find Balance at Your Center, highlights the many ways individuals find balance and whole person wellness at community centers. SourcePoint will host several special events to highlight its year-long offerings for older adults in the community, including a special art installation, a “bring a friend” potluck lunch, member photographs and interviews, and more.

SourcePoint’s enrichment center is designed for Ohio adults age 55 and older to focus on health and wellness, education, creativity, and recreation amongst friends. There are more than 200 programs available each month.

Tours are available during enrichment center hours: Monday through Thursday, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.; Friday, between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.; and Saturday between 8 a.m. and noon.

St. Mary’s Church offers tours

Free tours of St. Mary’s Church in Delaware will be held from noon to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17.

Residents are invited to enjoy coffee and conversation afterward. The parish began as a small wooden building in 1854, with the current Gothic style church finished in 1886 from local stone and brick.

Ohio History Connection celebrates the 50th anniversary of the National Historic Preservation Act with Ohio Open Doors Sept. 9–18. Ohio Open Doors is a statewide effort where building and landmark sponsors open their doors to the public for behind-the-scenes tours and programs.

In 1980, St. Mary’s Church and its rectory were listed together on the National Register of Historic Places. More information is available at www.delawarestmary.org

Gas Line Work to Close N. Sandusky St. at Pennsylvania Ave.

North Sandusky Street at Pennsylvania Ave. will be closed to through traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, September 1 for gas line work. It is anticipated that the roadway will be reopened within 24 hours, using steel plates. Local traffic will be able to access Sandusky Street properties between Heffner Street and Pennsylvania Ave.. Eastwest movement on Pennsylvania Ave will not be impacted.

‘Next Day’ Collection Schedule to Follow Labor Day Holiday

City offices will close September 5 for Labor Day. Residential refuse, recycling and yard waste crews will be utilizing the “next day” collection schedule during the week. This means household collections will be made the day following the normal collection day, Tuesday through Saturday, September 10.
