The Common Ground Free Store, which seeks to serve the county’s families facing economic hardships, is asking for some help of its own.
The organization is holding a fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. July 15 at the Kinsale Golf and Fitness Club. It will feature hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction.
The organization hopes to raise $15,000 at the event, enough to serve about 500 families, according to Common Ground Free Store Executive Director Lori Falk.
“We did it for the first time last year and it was just a wonderful time for people to come together and support the free store,” she said.
Tickets to the event are available for $50 per person or $75 per couple. Tickets can be purchased at the door or by calling 740-417-3403.
Table sponsorships are also available. A donation of $2,500 will garner the sponsorship of a table of eight. A $1,500 donation will allow for the sponsorship of half a table.
Auction items will include sports memorabilia, jewelry, a cheesecake of the month club membership, golf outings and more. The organization is still taking donations of items for the silent auction.
Despite being one of the most affluent of Ohio’s 88 counties, there is still plenty of poverty in Delaware County, according to Falk.
The organization serves 50 to 80 needy families each time it opens its doors by providing clothing and household items.
“It’s an opportunity for us to do outreach and let the community know about the free store and families in Delaware who are living in poverty,” Falk said.
