Ralph Jerry Santee

Monday, October 26, 2009

Ralph “Jerry” Santee, 71, of Powell, passed away suddenly on Thursday (Oct. 22, 2009) while at home.

He was born March 23, 1938 in Toledo. He was the son of Ralph and Theresa (Wolfe) Santee and was graduated from DeVilbiss High School, and later the University of Toledo. Loving his country, Jerry served as a captain in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Sill, Okla.

Marrying his high school sweetheart, Marjorie Cappi, on Dec. 22, 1962, Jerry spent his life loving and uplifting her each and every day. Jerry was talented with his hands especially when it came to working and tinkering on projects around the house. Even early on, his family learned that each turn of a screw and each swing of the hammer meant he cared and loved them deeply. From the bridge he built in the backyard of the house in Huron to the newly painted fence at their home in Powell, Jerry spent his time giving of himself in every project he took on.

Every year, Jerry looked forward to giving even further of himself by building houses and completing construction projects with A.C.T., a Christian construction crew dedicated to blessing others in need. He always gave selflessly, loved incredibly and cared richly for everyone he met.

Quite the grill master, Jerry was an excellent cook, especially his steaks and chicken. Each family gathering he spent time making the food just right. Always quick to smile, he took the time to listen to those around him, always offering a way to help.

Jerry loved Jesus Christ, his country and family with all his heart. He spent his time with others studying the Bible, sharing Christ with others through acts of love and was dedicated to Grace Brethren Church of Powell.

He was a very loving father and grandfather, spending time helping his children with their home improvement projects while playing catch with the grandchildren. Jerry never met a stranger — he was always just getting to know yet another friend. Remembered for his gentleness and big hearted compassion, his memory will live on with all who knew him.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife Margie Santee of Powell; children Tod and Carol (Strayer) Santee of Delaware, Scott and Lisa (Young) of Indianapolis, Jeff and Claudia (Kling) of Dallas, Texas and Lori and Phil Smith also of Delaware; 10 grandchildren, Amanda, Steven, and Josh Santee, Zachary and Gabe Santee, Mackenzie and Corbin Santee, and Josiah, Eli and Alayna Smith; one sister, Carol (Santee) Miller of Perrysburg; his dear friends and his Saturday morning breakfast buddies.

Jerry was preceded in death by both parents.

Services were held Sunday at Grace Brethern Church of Powell, 7600 Liberty Road. The Rev. Rick Nuzum officiated.

Arrangements entrusted to DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Delaware. Memorial contributions can be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.
