James C. Carter Jr., 71, formerly of Cardington, died unexpectedly Friday evening (Oct. 23, 2009) at Benington Glen in Marengo.

He was born on Aug. 9, 1938 in Columbus to the late James C. and Ethel (Claire) Carter Sr. A truck driver, he retired from Yellow Freight and was a member of Teamsters Local No 413. He enjoyed life over the road as well as fishing.

A former member of the Columbus and Delaware Moose Lodges, he made the lives of those he came into contact with better. Both thoughtful and generous, he was beautiful inside and out. Steadfast and true, he was considered a life saver to many.

He is survived by a daughter, Susan (Charlie) Cackler of Cardington; grandsons Seth Carter and Kyle Reisinger; and former wife Peggy Chattos.

He was preceded in death by his wife Madeline and brothers Bob, Jack and Harry.

Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 73 W. Walnut St. in Marengo.
