Frank P. Hempy, 85, of Prospect, died Wednesday morning (Nov. 4, 2009) at the Partners of Marion.

He was born May 22, 1924 in Big Island to the late Frank P. and Pearl (Shuff) Hempy. On Dec. 23, 1948 he married the former Betty Doyle and she passed away Sept. 10, 1999. He was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church, Hiram Lodge #18 F&AM in Delaware, Prospect American Legion 368 and Prospect Senior Citizens. A 1942 graduate of Waldo High School, Frank was a retired carpenter with G & G Homes after more than 30 years of service.

He is survived by three sons, Mike (Gloria) Hempy of Prospect, Rex Hempy of Prospect and Bill (Shelly) Hempy of Delaware; daughter Carolyn (John) Van Eck of LaRue; sister Luella Hoffman of Columbus; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren and a step-great-great grandchild.

Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by son Sky, three brothers and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009 in the Stofcheck-Ballinger Funeral Home, Prospect, with the Rev. Richard Allen officiating. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home in Prospect where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society (cancer.org). Condolences and remembrances may be expressed at stofcheck-ballingerfuneralhome.com.
