‘Minuscule numbers to claim global warming’

To the editor:

In the letter to The Gazette editor of July 21 (“Scientists not conspiring to control people”), the writer claims “the earth is warming.” This is a misleading statement … unless you use minute numbers to continue the claim of global warming. From 2010 to 2014, the temperature rise was only .02-degree C, according to government scientists. That’s .02-degree C in four years! During this time, carbon dioxide (which would be expected to push temperatures up) rose uninterrupted. So why aren’t the temperatures rising steadily, if CO2 is the problem?

The writer claims “the Christy satellite data has been re-analyzed quite a long time ago, and revised;” that might be true, but not by John Christy. Christy, a climate scientist, has said, “I’m sure the majority (but not all) of my IPCC colleagues cringe when I say this, but I see neither the developing catastrophe nor the smoking gun proving that human activity is to blame for most of the warming we see.”

Former director of Germany’s Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Lennart Bengtsson, said, “We are creating great anxiety without it being justified.” The award-winning Swedish meteorologist says the warming is not noticeable: “The warming we have had the last 100 years is so small that if we didn’t have climatologists to measure it, we wouldn’t have noticed it at all.”

The writer closed his letter by saying, “Those who think all these scientists are conspiring to control people are simply delusional.” But we say that those who believe these scientists/environmentalists, who continue to use minuscule numbers to claim global warming, are delusional.
