The Ohio Wesleyan University men’s soccer team has received a first-round bye and will host a second-round game of the NCAA Division III tournament on Sunday at Roy Rike Field on the Ohio Wesleyan campus, it was announced Monday.

Ohio Wesleyan will face the winner of Thursday’s game between Capital and Transylvania (Ky.) at 6 p.m. Sunday at Roy Rike Field.

Ohio Wesleyan (18-1-2) received a Pool C bid to the NCAA Division III tournament after finishing as runner-up in the North Coast Athletic Conference tournament. The Battling Bishops won the NCAC championship with a 9-0 record, Ohio Wesleyan’s 18th conference championship in the 26 seasons of NCAC competition. Ohio Wesleyan is making its 30th NCAA Division III playoff appearance in 32 years and its NCAA-record 32nd overall. The Battling Bishops have won an NCAA-record 51 Division III playoff games. Ohio Wesleyan won the 1998 national championship and finished as runner-up in 1990 and 1992.

Capital (16-4-2) won the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament championship on penalty kicks after a 2-2 tie with Ohio Northern in the title game. The Crusaders tied for second place in the OAC standings with a 7-1-1 record. Capital is making its first-ever NCAA Division III playoff appearance.

Transylvania (14-3-1) won the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament championship by defeating Hanover, 2-1, in the title game. The Pioneers finished second in the HCAC with a 7-1 record. Transylvania is making its fifth NCAA playoff appearance, all coming in the last six seasons.

In the Nov. 3 NCAA Division III rankings by the NSCAA, Ohio Wesleyan was ranked No. 1.

The winner of Sunday’s second-round game will advance to a four-team sectional tournament to be held Nov. 20-21 or Nov. 21-22 on the campus of one of the competing institutions.
