Talk about setting the bar high.

Liberty’s Preston Stanley did just that in his first outing of the spring, tossing a no-hitter to lead the Olentangy Liberty baseball team to a 10-0, five-inning win over Excel Christian Academy Monday afternoon in Lakepoint, GA.

Stanley had solid command throughout, striking out eight while walking just two. He threw just 72 pitches in the win, 42 of which were strikes.

The Patriot offense, meanwhile, backed him up in a big way. Liberty (2-0) jumped out to a 5-0 lead after the first inning before adding a run in the second, three in the third and one more in the fifth.

Connor Stewart led Liberty at the plate, finishing a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored. Chase Gresock and Zack Arnold were also solid, each collecting an RBI while scoring a pair of runs apiece.

The Patriots return to action today against George Rodgers Clark.

Hilliard Davidson 6, Hayes 1

The Hayes baseball team plated a first-inning run, but couldn’t put together much else en route to a 6-1 season-opening setback to Hilliard Davidson Monday afternoon at Chillicothe’s Paints Stadium.

The Wildcats set the tone with a three-run first. Sam Monnin, Nick Summers and Colton Miles connected on three straight RBI hits, two doubles and a single, off Pacer starter Tyler Brown. Brown went the distance in the loss, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits to go with three walks and a strikeout in his seven innings of action.

Mason McGeath led Hayes at the plate, finishing 2-for-3 with a single and triple. Zach Miller and Noah Watts, meanwhile, each had singles in the setback.

Summers allowed just the one run on four hits in seven solid innings for Davidson. He struck out four and walked just one.

Hayes (0-1) returns to action Wednesday against host London.
