The Delaware Hayes softball team continued its perfect start to the season Wednesday, cruising past host Mount Vernon 18-2 in five innings.

Amaia Daniel sparked the Pacer offense with a 3-for-4 effort at the plate — a performance punctuated by a three-run homer in the top of the fifth. Daniel closed with four runs scored and four RBI when all was said and done.

Madi Huck also had a big night for Hayes (9-0, 4-0 OCC), finishing 3-for-4 with a game-best six RBI.

Other standouts included Caylin Morstadt, who had a home run to go with an RBI and two runs scored; Lexi Mattix, who had a pair of hits; and Kaily Schuette, who finished with three runs and two knocked in.

The game was never in doubt as the Pacers scored the only three runs they would need in the top of the first. They added two more in the second and erupted for 10 in the fourth to all but seal the deal.

Mount Vernon scored its only two runs in the last half of the fifth.

Huck picked up the win in the circle, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out six and walking two in her five innings of action.

The Pacers return to action Friday against host Franklin Heights.

The Pioneers scored six first-inning runs and never looked back, doubling up the visiting Falcons Wednesday in Lewis Center.

Alayna Kaschak, Marlo Robinson and Alyssa Laisure each had two hits for Orange while Brenna Oliver, who allowed five runs on 10 hits in five innings of work, picked up the win in the circle. Oliver struck out four.

BASEBALL

Olentangy stayed perfect in league play, parlaying four first-inning runs into a 5-3 OCC-Capital Division win over visiting Franklin Heights Wednesday in Lewis Center.

The Braves (6-5, 4-0 OCC) didn’t knock the cover off the ball, finishing with just five hits, but did come up with some timely knocks. Josh Moeller sparked the early outburst with a two-run single in the first. He finished with three RBI in the win.

Evan Brock picked up the win on the mound, allowing three runs, none of which were earned, on five hits to go with five strikeouts and three walks in 6.1 innings of work.

Olentangy returns to action today against visiting Orange.

Liberty 4, Marysville 3, 8 innings

The Patriots took advantage of five Monarch errors to pick up a key league win Wednesday in Marysville, the last of which helped Mitchell Okuley come home with the game-winning run in the top of the eighth.

Okuley finished with two of the five Liberty (7-2, 4-0 OCC) hits while scoring a pair of runs. Chase Gresock was also solid in the win, finishing with two RBI.

Jordan Seich, who came on in relief to pitch the final 2.2 innings of the game, picked up the win. He allowed one hit while striking out two and walking one in his abbreviated outing.
