Ryan Wright carded a 74 to lead Olentangy to a runner-up finish during the first OCC event of the season Monday at Apple Valley.

The effort was good enough to earn medalist honors, but could have been better had the short game been working for him.

“He felt like the putts were not dropping,” Olentangy coach Joel Glassburn said. “But he played well.”

Jake Gerard, Nick Scott and Garrett Varanelli all fired 80s while Matthew Homza had an 83 for the Braves, who finished with a combined 314 — a mark second only to first-place New Albany (309).

Orange, Big Walnut and Hayes were also in action.

The Pioneers finished tied for third with Mount Vernon thanks to a combined 330, the Golden Eagles finished fifth with a 336 and the Pacers closed seventh with a 355.

Orange got contributions from Zach Mahon (78), Alex Cabungcal (80), Spencer Gifford (86), Connor Cummins (86) and John Mikulec (90); Hayes was led by Grant Godfrey (76); and Big Walut got solid rounds from Michael Ford (81), Trevor Dew (92) and Austin Schone (84).

The second of four OCC events is scheduled for Monday at Darby Creek.
