Liberty blanks Olentangy in non-league clash

Wesley Collins scored a pair of first-half goals off feeds from Trevor Collins and the Liberty boys soccer team added three more tallies in the second half to notch a solid 5-0 non-league win over rival Olentangy Saturday in Powell.

The Patriots’ Ryan Slawson, Colin McCort and Oliver Person smoothed out the scoring summary with their second-half goals.

Olentangy’s Collin Hoffmann finished with six saves in the Braves’ goal while Liberty’s Jeremy Karr and Tommy Hlinka combined for five to preserve the shutout.

VOLLEYBALL

Delaware Christian won a match and lost two others on the way to a fourth-place finish at Saturday’s Worthington Christian Invitational.

The Eagles defeated Shekinah Christian 26-24, 25-18, lost to Fisher Catholic 25-16, 24-26, 21-25 and fell to Worthington Christian 19-25, 25-18, 30-32.

Erin McCullough led DCS with 68 digs and 46 kills, both team-highs, over the course of the three games. Other standouts included Liz Sullivan (18 kills, 22 digs), Abbey Evans (12 blocks, 18 digs, eight aces), Brianna Blackburn (17 digs, 73 assists), Anna Fuller (26 digs, eight aces) and Mary Kerins (18 digs).

GIRLS TENNIS

Liberty picked up a pair of solid non-league wins Saturday afternoon, slipping past Sycamore 3-2 before handling Ursuline Academy 4-1.

Lexi Steer (6-3, 7-6 (4) at second singles), Sidney Reineke (7-5, 6-3 at third singles) and Anna Delaney and Cellini Ko (6-1, 6-4 at first doubles) picked up the wins against Sycamore while Delaney (6-0, 6-0 at second singles), Reineke (6-3, 6-2 at third singles), Alexia Meyer and Ko (7-6 (3), 6-1 at first doubles) and Lizzie Radkiewicz and Avivah Wang (6-2, 6-3 at second doubles) earned the wins against Ursuline.
